The Democrats have an information problem. The repugs won because they played on the insecurities, and imagined threats of the general public. The Repugs have exploited shallow thought processes, and reactionary mentalities to use against progressive organizations.
This contest is not new, it has been going on since the 1950s, only as the years passed, and new means of spreading information has grown to deeper influence in our societies, and it was never challenged by progressive organizations who should have known better. This right wing extremist threat has been dismissed, and ignored, and has been embraced by the emergent radical right. The Republicans win on fear! Human beings are driven by fear. Democrats, because they don’t see a bogey man around every corner, don’t hustle to change things. Republicans see a bogeyman around every corner and rush to stop welfare queens from getting free stuff, LBGTQ people from grooming their kids, college students getting a free ride on tuition, immigrants from taking jobs…..on and on and on. That’s why Fox is so popular. People watch and feel that now they know the bogeyman and can do something about it. It’s always been the factor behind wars.
The problem that Democrats have is human nature itself. We may be doomed. Unless we can manufacture our own bogeyman. And there are some candidates that are doing just that, successfully.
Why Democrats Lost Rural Texas (And What the Research Says Would Win It Back)
On June 3, 2026, the New World screwworm was confirmed in Texas for the first time in 60 years. A rancher in Zavala County had to drive 50 miles to find a veterinarian.
That same month, the Pecos Valley melon farmers—a generational agricultural brand—were gone. A state agriculture official said it plainly: “There’s no water. They had to leave.”
In North Texas, the Permian Basin has seen 1,600 earthquakes since 2009, caused by wastewater injection. The ground is fracturing.
Schools are closing in Central Texas. Property rights are being stripped in East Texas.
And Democrats haven’t won a statewide office in Texas since 1994—32 years ago.
Here’s what haunts me: Rural and suburban Texans didn’t abandon Democrats because they “lost” the culture wars. They abandoned Democrats because Democrats put survival issues on hold while fighting the culture wars.
The research is clear: Democrats could win rural Texas if they fought both fights simultaneously—defending marginalized communities and protecting rural/suburban survival (water, schools, property rights, the ground itself).
Because the ground is telling you what is happening. The only question is whether you are listening.
Democrats have to want to fix problems. The minimum wage could have been pegged to inflation but the democrats wanted to be the ones to give the raises. They lost control and we lost income.
Democrats could have pushed an Amendment on Equal rights, reproductive rights and sexual freedom of choice. They didn’t because they wanted to have a winning campaign hook.
The DNC doesn’t have a messaging or strategy problem.
The DNC are reaping the rewards of promising universal healthcare in the 1930’s. People start to think it is a lie.
