I keep thinking back to August 2024, driving to Blanco to speak with the Blanco County Democrats, while listening to The Latino Vote podcast with Mike Madrid and Chuck Rocha. That episode—Crypto-mocracy: Silicon Valley’s Vision for Authoritarian Control—was the first time I heard about Marc Andreessen, Peter Thiel, Curtis Yarvin, David Sacks, and Elon Musk’s dystopian vision for democracy.

I remember thinking, This is what we’ll need to focus on in 2026.

Well. I vastly underestimated their timeline. And like many of you, I didn’t see this coming so fast.

Fast forward to this weekend: Elon’s takeover of government computer systems, Social Security numbers, the Treasury office—you name it. We’re watching a coup unfold. Not with tanks in the streets, but with sophisticated digital warfare. And it’s scary AF.

We should be in the streets.

Like many Texans, I called John Cornyn, Ted Cruz, and Lloyd Doggett’s offices. Guess who answered? Only Congressman Doggett. Cornyn and Cruz? Phone lines down—straight to a busy signal. Cowards.

Rural America is getting SCREWED right now

🚨 Rural America is about to get SCREWED. And if you live in Texas? Well, add a cherry on top. 🍒 Let’s talk about what’s coming. 🧵👇

Trump canceled all infrastructure programs that would bring Broadband to Rural America and that includes Texas. This program employed hundreds of Texans who now lost their jobs.

75 counties in Texas are seeing their populations shrink. Why? Climate change. Agricultural challenges. But here’s the kicker, Texas farmers rely on government subsidies. 20% of them get federal support, and Texas takes in 26% of ALL U.S. farm subsidies. That’s a lot. Guess who’s cutting those subsidies? Trump & Elon Musk. Yep. It’s on the chopping block. That safety net? Gone.

It’s not just farms. The Department of Education funds special education, education grants, and college loans. That’s federal money supporting Texas schools. Texas gets $14.6 billion in federal funds for public schools each year. That’s nearly 20% of ALL public school funding in the state. But Texas Republicans? They want to rip that apart with private school vouchers. Public schools will be left to rot.

Here’s what they’re NOT telling you: 158 counties in Texas don’t even HAVE a private school. That means rural tax dollars will pay for rich kids in cities & suburbs to go to private school. You’re struggling to fund your local schools, and now your tax dollars are being sent to private schools you can’t even use.

Vouchers aren’t about “school choice” for rural Texans. They’re about defunding your local schools and sending YOUR money to wealthy families elsewhere.

It’s about to rain FIRE on Rural Texas. And the GOP only has itself to blame.

Some will say, “This is a Democratic messaging problem.” But honestly? It’s a listening problem. Rural Texans, are you paying attention? Some of us Democrats actually give a damn about you. Republicans care about billionaires. Period. So, what’s it gonna take? Are you gonna join us in this fight? Or sit back and watch your schools close, your farms fail, and your communities disappear?

The choice is yours. But don’t say we didn’t warn you.
