Texas once proved it could build great public schools. Then came tax cuts, funding cuts, testing, vouchers, and four decades of asking schools to do more with less.

I started to teach in 1984-2014.
The biggest thing I want you to know is the State taking over any school in Texas is a very BAD idea. I don’t feel that Mike Morath really knows what he is doing. Yet, he acts like he knows.
He has a sinister past; that seems to some people that he really isn’t interested in making public schools better. The real killer is House Bill 1842 passed in 2015. By then I was really paying attention to what Texas Politicians were doing to public education. One of my (formerly) favorite politician voted For that Bill. I was shocked! I asked his constituents to ask him about it. Why did he do that? I was so angry about it. I’m still upset. He helped passed a Bill that year (he sold public education so that his bill would pass.) I don’t remember what his bill was about. Had he been my representative; I would have had a long discussion. To learn was it worth killing Public Education for his bill. I 🙏🏼 that Texas Turns Blue so that maybe we can go back to the 1970s and make it better going forward. Rural Republicans in Texas just might want to help make Public Education Great Again.
Slightly punchy over here after looking at some precinct analysis, but you have said much of what I would say. Rural Republicans should be looking at what their leaders have done to them and maybe end up saving us all but I had to think of the song YMCA which could be used with Make Public Education Great Again.
