Why the US Speaker of House Vote Matters
Are we finally seeing the Republicans rejecting Trumpism or will they go down with the ship?
Why does the US Speaker of the House matter?
Hey Texans, we thought picking the Speaker of the House in the Texas House was bad, here comes with U.S. house with their “Hold My Beer!”
The Speaker of the House role is defined by the U.S. Constitution. So it’s a role that has been around since the founding of this country. The Speaker gets to call on Representatives to speak. They get to set the tone for what bills are brought the floor and how they get discussed. They get to pick who gets to sit on what committees. They are in charge of building coalitions and committees. And their role is a lot more strategic than you think.
In this role, timing is everything. All you have to do is watch Nancy Pelosi at work to see that she is very good about holding her cards tight, counting numbers and holding back till she has something she can deliver. And no matter how many time headlines said Nancy was wavering or didn’t have numbers, in more cases than not she came through with flying colors and closed the deal.
And right now we see a Republican party in disarray. Rep Kevin McCarthy went into chambers and lost the vote for Speaker of the house not once, but six times. We all knew things were up in the air, but I don’t think many of us could have predicted that he would lose six times.
The biggest problem though isn’t that the didn’t win. It’s the fact that the Republican party is divided. Americans are rejecting Trumpism and the extremists. And the Extremist in office are having a litmus test for Speaker of the House and they are refusing to vote for McCarthy and want to back Jim Jordan. Both Kevin McCarthy and Jim Jordan participated on some level in the Jan 6th insurrection and “Big Lie.” Both also refused to cooperate with the Jan 6th Committee and refused the subpoena. Neither one of them is fit for this office.
Let’s discuss Presidential Succession.
The Presidential Succession Act passed in 1947 and is legal succession of order in case the President dies or cannot fulfill his or her duties. Here’s the order
Vice President
Speaker of the House
Senate President pro Tempore
Secretary of State
Secretary of the Treasury
The Speaker of the House is #2 in succession. We saw how close we were on January 6th in needing the Speaker of the House to step into the Presidential role temporarily. Do we really trust Kevin McCarthy or Jim Jordan in this role? Probably not after each of their role on Jan 6th.
Byron Donalds was nominated today, but even his nomination only brought in the same 20 votes Jim Jordan did.
Word on the street in 2023 is that Trumpism is out and Democracy is in! We need to put and end to Trumpism and we can’t do so till the current GOP decide to start governing again. They need to take some level of control over the party troublemakers in their mist; Chip Roy (R-TX) we are talking about you.
Jim Jordan even went as far as asking about a possible Presidential pardon. Do we want another two years of a Jim Jordan circus and trials on Hunter Biden’s laptop. Americans are sick of their antics. Meanwhile Hakeem Jefferies (D) has more votes than McCarthy or Jordan. So what will it be? Extremist or Moderates? Will the Republican’s actually start working with Democrats this session. One can certainly hope so.
NOTE: Watch out for Chip Roy, the narcissist from Texas who is talking a big game and thinks he’s the only one who can save America. He’s no John Cornyn, but the thinks he is. Chip Roy also played a role in January 6th. Let’s us not forget!
Chip Roy thinking he's John Cornyn is a delicious self-burn.
